Not Exactly: Journalist shows how the media (and we) miss the point on both Obama and Conservative Christianity

“Get Religion blog” author Terry Mattingly exposes the errors: He points out the flaws in both the coverage of fundamentalism in the recent CNN article on Obama’s faith (Obama, the wrong kind of Christian) and in many conservative Christian’s misunderstanding of Obama’s faith. Most of us have something to learn about our caricatures of “those people.”

About mattarino

My friends say I'm a "provocateur," but really I'm just thinking out loud. I am Director of Youth and Young Adults for the Diocese of Arizona and lead a multi-ethnic church planting team in Central Phoenix for people passionate that the church should look like their neighborhood. (www.mystjudes.com) I have been captivated by Christ. This involved an adolescence as an argumentative atheist until being convinced that we are here by design in a Biology class. I have been a teacher, Aftercare Coordinator (Remuda Ranch Center & wrote their Recovery Workbook), and served 17 great years on Young Life staff. In high school I was paid to hang out with NBA players as a Phoenix Suns ball-boy. I am married to Kari and have two children, Ellie and Luke.

  1. Steve Martin says:

I’m sure that is a good article (no time to go there now and read it), but about the last thing I care about with the Chief Executive, is his/her faith (when that finally happens).

The same goes for my barber, or my doctor, or the cook who whips up my dinner at McDonalds.

I just want them to carry out their duties to the best of their ability.

Now, my pastor is another story.

  2. Steve Martin says:

    I should have read it.

The article is right. (from your description, I’m confident of that fact)
